The BPC-CERT is NYC’s first FEMA trained and certified team. In the event of an emergency the need for a trained community emergency response team to take initial steps to assist victims is essential. CERT training is designed to help you protect yourself, your family, your neighbors and your neighborhood in an emergency situation and to provide assistance to first responders.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Initiative has been a FEMA program for more than 10 years.
We, as residents of Battery Park City, are keenly aware of the horrific events
that impacted our neighborhood on and after 9/11. As a result we had strong
motivation to mobilize our neighbors to be able to respond adequately should
another disaster occur, whether man-made or natural.
We envision the primary roles for our Battery Park CERT as: Identifying residents, especially those with physical impairments or other special needs, acting to calm our neighbors during any such episode, assisting with evacuation when necessary, educating the residents for disaster preparedness, and augmenting first responders, i.e. traffic and crowd control.
If you feel that you or a member of your household would need special assistance in the event of a local emergency, we urge you to complete a "Special Needs Questionnaire" and return it to the BPC-CERT team. This information is VOLUNTARY and CONFIDENTIAL; it will be added to our Special Needs Registry FOR EMERGENCY USE ONLY. Please click HERE to download the form in Adobe PDF format.
CERT in Battery Park City is constantly recruiting new members; if you are interested in free training and certification please contact us by clicking HERE or contact Lee Blake at 212-321-3446 for more information.
